Melville Golf Centre is the first golf range in the Edinburgh area to install automatic pop up Powertees. Powertees are an electronic teeing system for presenting the golf ball to the golfer on a height adjustable tee, ready for hitting down the range. Golfers love the Powertees because they do not need to break grip or stance to tee up each ball. You can get really good rhythm which is great for building a consistent golf swing. One of the first groups to take advantage of the new Powertees was the residents of Mark Wright House, Erskine Home. Mark Wright House is the UK Army's first recovery centre for injured and unwell soldiers. The centre is part of a pilot scheme which will be rolled out across the UK if it proves successful. Mark Wright House is in Gilmerton, just over the City Bypass from Midlothian.

Major R J H Sutherland MBE TD, Officer Commanding the Army Recovery Centre ( Edinburgh) said " Most of our residents have problems with their backs or their legs and are receiving quite a bit of physiotherapy to help them with their injuries. Some of our badly wounded residents also have more obvious injuries which have affected their self confidence. In order to provide a little variety in their daily routine, I have been trying to find a number of activities where I can get the soldiers out of their accommodation and undertaking some form of physical exercise without them actually thinking about it. Your golf centre is perfect for this. I am also pleased to say that due to the excitement and talk generated by our visit last Monday morning, some of our more seriously injured have been persuaded to come out for our next visit"
