Saturday, 2nd May (7.30pm – midnight) DEEPLY SCOTTISH FOLK NIGHT at the Scottish Mining Museum A fantastic evening of music beginning with a Brass Band on the Pithead followed by 2 Folk Bands in the Old Powerhouse and Stovies and Stories in the coffee shop. Sunday, 3rd May (11am-4pm) DIG THE PAST at the Scottish Mining Museum Come along and find out about the history of Midlothian’s villages and towns or discover how to trace your ancestors with the help of genealogists. Specialist talks throughout the day and Family Tree Workshops for the Children. Sunday, 3rd May MINERS MEGACYCLE Details to come Sunday, 3rd May MEET YOUR ANCESTORS at the Scottish Mining Museum Come along and experience the Lady Victoria Colliery by night on our ghost tour led by Aggie McGhee, a Victorian Coal Sorter. Watch out for Mungo Mackay, the much-feared general manager of the Lothian Coal Company and Jock Kane, the headless miner who still haunts the mine. Not for the feint-hearted! Sunday, 3rd May GIE BIG PARTY Details to come Monday, 4th May GAITHER MIDLOTHIAN MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS at the Scottish Mining Museum A fantastic day of family fun starting with a banner parade through Newtongrange stopping at the Scottish Mining Museum where families can spend the day enjoying the bands, dancers, face painting, magicians, puppet shows, arts & crafts, bouncy castles and a programme of activities in a special Gaither Midlothian Marquee. |
