Take a tour of the pithead and recreated underground with an ex-miner guide. (daily – check website for up to date tour times)
Explore two floors of fascinating exhibitions. Story of Coal – Learn about coal’s creation in the Carboniferous period 360 million years ago and discover how it was extracted from the earth from the 13th century to modern times. A Race Apart – Discover what life was like at home and at work for the miners and their families in Scotland’s mining communities. Our Find the Colliery Cats and Family Tree Trail activities will be available for children.

Marvel at the 40 foot coal shearer, the massive winding engine from Frances Colliery, underground carriages, cages, locomotives and much more!
