Roslin Glen Country park

Roslin, EH25 9PU
Roslin Glen is a wooded Glen with walks following the River North Esk. It is a beautiful and peaceful spot, on the site of a former gunpowder factory. Many of the magazines (gunpowder stores) still stand, as well as some of the old mill buildings. Aside from it's explosive past, Roslin is also well-known for it's Rosslyn Chapel and Rosslyn Castle, around which a number of important battles took place.

Midlothian Ranger Service manages the upper Powdermills section of the Glen, and part of the Lower Glen. The Powdermills section features a linear track leading from the B7003 to the Penicuik to Dalkeith Walkway, as well as a pathway to the stunning riverside sandstone cliffs and remains of the former gunpowder lade and mill buildings.

The Lower Glen features a path network which can also be continued across the bridge to woodland owned by the Earl of Roslin, passing alongside Roslin Castle and Wallace's Cave.

Much of the Glen is covered in semi-natural woodland supporting a rich variety of wildlife and has excellent opportunities for enjoying natural history.
