Lady Victoria Colliery Newtongrange, Dalkeith, EH22 4QN
Set in the wonderfully restored Lady Victoria Colliery on the A7 at Newtongrange, this five star visitor attraction, recently voted Scotland's Most Treasured Place, houses the story of coal for Scotland. Visitors can discover the miners' way of life through two floors of exhibitions. The Story of Coal and A Race Apart - interactives, film theatre, Magic Helmet tour of the pithead, recreated underground and coalface and the BIG STUFF Massive Mining Machinery tour. Marvel at the sheer size of the place, be astounded by the engineering brilliance behind all the machinery and retrace the footsteps and struggles of the thousands of miners and their families before them.

Our newly launched family backpacks are available from reception to encourage younger children to interact with the exhibitions through themed puzzles, quizzes, colouring sheets and games.

After the tour, visitors can relax in our licensed coffee shop which serves hot and cold meals, while the children use the play area. Don't miss the opportunity to browse the museum's superbly stocked Gift Shop.

The museum also offers The Old Power House for hire for all types of functions, is fully accessible and has a large free car park.
