THE hunt is on for Penicuik's 2010 Hunter and Lass.

The couple will lead the town during its week of celebrations in May. Highlights of the celebrations include the installation ceremony outside Penicuik Town Hall followed by Hunter and Lass Day - Saturday May 29 - when there is a carnival atmosphere to the town.

The Hunter and Lass will also represent Penicuik at other festivals across the Lothians and Scottish Borders. The Penicuik Hunter and Lass Committee is seeking nominations for this year's principals.

The Hunter and his Lass can be nominated as a couple or as individuals. They must be over 18 years and live within the Penicuik area.

Committee chairman Fiona Gibson said: "Candidates need to have a fun outgoing personality and a genuine interest in Penicuik and the local community.

"The commitment expected is very high but the rewards of a once in a lifetime experience are well worth the effort."

Horse-riding is a skill, which is required by the Hunter and Lass, but tuition will be provided for those with little or no experience.

Candidates will be interviewed during the first week in March. The introduction disco, when the lucky couple will be officially announced, is to take place on March 27.
